Native to South America this species of B.sarmienta extracts the most guaiac resin oil but some of the essential oils are from southern Florida and G. sanctum in the Bahamas. Guaiac wood is a small tree about 3.65 meters high with pale green leaves white bark blue flowers and brown-green wood hearts which are often sold as sawdust or wood chips.
Although it can naturally flow out of the resin sometimes people will burn the wood to collect the softened resin. This essential oil is solid at room temperature and needs to be heated to make it liquid.

Sometimes referred to as the 'holy tree' it can be seen that it has been used in some semi-religious half-witchcraft ceremonies.
